Message from Leslie Love:

Hello LOVE for Detroit Supporter,

The primary is over and we ran one incredible and dynamic race! And while I did not win the primary, I am encouraged by the tremendous amount of love and support I received from the community, fellow candidates, political pundits and aficionados.

I know some of you are sad and disappointed. But I encourage you to look at how incredible we are. I was a first time candidate running against the most powerful man in the House (Chair of Appropriations) who has tremendous name recognition and over 34 years experience in politics. No one had heard of "Leslie Love" before now and despite that, we made the mighty incumbent CUSHingberry nervous. In the last two weeks he out spent me and got his supporters to the polls, BUT he didn't kill me.

According to Wednesday's Detroit Free Press, the final numbers are as follows:

George Cushingberry3,51453% of the votes
Leslie Love 2,09432% of the votes

Note, everyone on the ballot had run before, and I still came in second. For a guy with such power and name recognition---and for an ingénue with less than $20K and a team of inexperienced, but dedicated and determined volunteers--- the results tell a telling story.

We did things that had never been done before-(1) we gave away gas; (2) bike rode around the district; (3) talked to people at restaurants, grocery stores, barber & beauty salons; (4) we went business-to-business and door-to-door; (5) we spoke on the radio and the press; (6) we spoke at forums, debates, and rallies; (7) we caravan around the community getting out the vote; (8) we served food to police officers; (9) we feed the community; (10) we held a rally at a gas station, and so much more. We did a lot with a little and we did it all with a spirit of LOVE.

This campaign was unique because we focused on a vision not merely a vote. We gave our heart, time, energy, and money to help transform the west side of Detroit. You were a part of greatness.

I am so thankful and proud of the committee who helped deliver this victory-and yes, I believe it is a victory because it is a set up for the hook up next time.

I am elated that I had the opportunity to meet so many Detroiters and to share my transformative vision of a greater Detroit. And I am especially proud to have made new friends and forged stronger relationships with others.

From this moment onward, I will continue my mission and look for the victory in 2010. And I encourage you to get involved and active in doing all you can to support Barak Obama for President.

I am so proud of what we have achieved. WOW! See what faith and hope can do?
